About the Site

Khawla, better known as Um Mohammad, is known amongst the local community as an expert producer of dairy products.  Jerash is known for its Jameed (dried yoghurt used in Mansaf, Jordan’s national dish), Samneh or Ghee, white cheese and Labanah (a strained yogurt that is rich and tangy) all made with love using milk from local sheep and cows.  These dairy products are highly sought after in Jerash and Amman and can be purchased during your visit or through delivery.

Your visit to Um Mohammad includes seeing how these dairy products are made along with other pantry items.  Zaatar, Sumac, Maftoul (a sun-dried bulgur wheat, that is rolled by hand resulting in uneven grains), Maqdoos (walnut and garlic stuffed eggplants) are sourced from 6 local women suppliers.

Um Mohammad offers beautiful gardens and terraces that you may sit and enjoy the views from, making Fatayer (cheese, spinach and meat stuffed pastry), or fresh bread with the above pantry items.  Your afternoon is topped off with a hot glass of tea with local herbs.

Um Mohammad has worked hard over the years and has educated her 7 children through her business. In addition, she supports the local community by supporting 6 local women in the pantry production (Zaatar, Maftoul, Sumac).
