Dibeen National Park

About the Site

Dibeen National Park is located in the Jerash Governate, just less than an hour drive from Amman and situated south of the Roman ruins.  A visit to this area offers you a respite from the busyness of city life as you experience the fresh air, unique forest and habitation that will calm and relax you.  The park’s protected area is 8.5 square kilometers and was officially recognized as a reserve area in 2004 by the RSCN (Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature) who also manage the site.

There are some hiking trails through the park. During the Spring, the flowers and other plants are at their peak, blanketing the forest. The area is very popular with local picnickers on Fridays and a wonderful way to meet locals.

Dibeen is also recognized globally due to its significant biodiversity. The forest reserve contains one of the last remaining examples of a pine–oak forest in the Middle East and 17 endangered species have been identified within the reserve including the Persian red squirrel, four different bat species, grey wolves, striped hyenas and Woodland birds.  Fun Fact, the Dibeen Forest Reserve ecosystem supports 517 plant species.

Dibeen also supports local community projects by hosting the Dibeen Ceramics or Dibeen Embroidery Workshops.  The Ceramics Workshop offers beautiful pieces of art that are functional…and also paired with various herbs and soaps that are locally made in Jerash.

Local women are the artisans within the Dibeen Embroidery Workshop. Their talents are showcased through the various products they create using traditional Embroidery methods.  You can take home a beautiful memory of your time in Dibeen.

A visit to Dibeen should be on your list of things to do and see in Jerash.
